DOUBLESPEAK: I AM A MAN

"I AM A MAN" Is an affirmation that a group of sanitation workers in Memphis Tennessee adopted while they were on strike. The declaration is a derivation from the opening line in the prologue of Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man;

"I am an invisible man".

The removal of the word invisible spoke to their existence, their dignity and their humanity.

"BLACK LIVES MATTER"  is a battle cry that was adopted to condemn injustice and the devaluation of Black people in our communities and courtrooms across the country.
